Conservation Plan for Northrup Hill Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary

Chemung Valley Audubon Society's sanctuary trails need continuous maintenance to keep them open safe for all birders and hikers. This leads to a pressing concern: the Northrup Hill Sanctuary trails. The property’s first woodlot is an early successional (pioneer) woodlot consisting of quaking aspen, large-toothed aspen, white birch, and white ash trees. These trees are dying and falling onto the walking paths.

We invite you to support the restoration and improvement of this property. For each $20.00 donation, CVAS will plant a tree seedling to replace a dead/dangerous tree removed from the trail. The tree seedlings will be protected with tree tubes held in place with stakes.

The Conservation Committee will determine which trees to plant, taking into account best silviculture practices so assist a natural transition to a mature forest woodlot consisting of maple, oak, yellow birch, cherry, and basswood, providing varied nesting sites for birds.

Thank you for your continued support of Chemung Valley Audubon Society's mission to "conserve and restore the natural ecosystems within New York and the Southern Finger Lakes Region."
